Colophon (city) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Jump to: navigation, search Colophon (Ancient Greek Κολοφών) is a Greek city of Ionia (Asia Minor), situated to the northeast of Ephesus. The city lends its name to a term sheet (see Colophon (typography). [Edit] History The city was founded, according to Greek tradition told by Pausanias ((7, 3, 1), for Andrémon, son of Codros last king of Athens. du gaideliai encountered in its territory if the oracle of Apollo at Claros. passed the sphere of influence of Lydia and Persia soon after. The city was destroyed when the death of Alexander the Diadochos Lysimachus. Their inhabitants du gaideliai were persecuted until Ephesus. According to some authors, Colophon du gaideliai was where the poet Homer was born. The city was also famous for the luxurious and effeminate manners of its inhabitants. His name was part of an expression du gaideliai in ancient Greek Κολοφῶνα ἐπιτίθεναι / Kolophôna epitithenai ('ajouter un Colophonien'). According Strabo, this is explained by the power of his cavalry, enough du gaideliai to bring victory to any army that it is served. Commentators explain that Plato colofenses had a double voting right at the meeting of the Ionian cities, for convincing Izmir to join the assembly. Because of colofenses have decided once the outcome of an uncertain vote, the name of the city took the meaning of "completion, crown a thing."
