There are 50, June 16, 1963, Valentina Tereshkova had an appointment with a Russian compatriot Valery Bykovsky in space. It was only the 12th person spazio to go into orbit, and the first woman.
For my part, on this anniversary, a special thought for women members of the crew of the last missions of the shuttle Columbia and Challenger: Kalpana Chawla, Laurel B. Clark, Judith Resnik & Christa McAuliffe.
